I wanted to save money on electricity as I prepared to retire in a few years, and I wanted to reduce my impact on the environment, while serving as an example for others.

I wanted to reduce my carbon footprint and to help grow the renewable energy industry in the USA.  I paid more to get a “Made in the USA” system. My system can be seen from Route 66.

We purchased 1411 Biscay with a geothermal system, and wanted to further the efficiency of the home. The front roof pointed to the SE and was a good candidate for photovoltaics with a 26 degree pitch and zero shading. Incentives were also helpful in making our decision to install solar.

We live in a 125 year old 2 story farmhouse and our gas & electric bill was out of sight. With the install of the solar panels, heat pump water heater and insulation of the house our utility bill averages around $60. per month. We also removed the gas meter & piping.

In 2012, StraightUp Solar installed 40 solar panels on the Juggle.com office, located off Highway 159 in Bronze Pointe. Every year, the solar system will produce the same amount of electricity as burning 12,000 pounds of coal. “At Juggle.com, using solar energy aligns with our goals of being a socially-responsible workplace focused on team members. Plus, it helps us lower our electric bill.” says Ryan Noble.

Adding solar power was not only an economic choice but was also an environmental choice. I installed a solar PV system for two main reasons: to stabilize my utility costs and to decrease my carbon footprint. I now own my office building and have replaced most lighting with LED lighting but utility costs still rise, so eliminating the cost of electricity will help my bottom line.

Self-reliance as much as possible, using natural resources as much as possible -both are passions. Reducing expense is related to good stewardship and good stewardship makes it more possible to direct resources to good causes and helping others. This 120 acre Old Enterprise Farms was settled 45 years ago by three families with common ties, one more added shortly, and five generations have called it home. Our family in particular, has thrived on producing food and energy locally.
